Legal Disclaimer

Legal Laws GA publishes general information about Georgia law in plain English. Please read this disclaimer before you rely on any guide.

Not legal advice

Nothing on this site is legal advice. Our guides explain how Georgia statutes and rules generally work. They cannot account for the facts of your situation, and reading them does not create an attorney-client relationship with anyone. Legal Laws GA is not a law firm, and its writers are not acting as your lawyers.

Laws change

The Georgia General Assembly passes new laws every session, most of them effective July 1, and courts and agencies change how existing laws apply. We date every guide and update it when we learn of a change, but a guide may not reflect the newest developments on the day you read it. Always check the current official text of the law.

Local rules

Georgia cities and counties, including Atlanta, Savannah and the metro Atlanta counties, can adopt ordinances that add to state law. Where we know a local rule matters, we mention it, but we cannot cover every ordinance in all 159 counties.

Get help from a professional

If you face a criminal charge, a lawsuit, a divorce, an injury claim or any decision with legal consequences, talk to a lawyer licensed in Georgia. If you cannot afford one, legal aid programs in Georgia may be able to help.

No liability
